Welsh Orthopaedic Society Meeting 2017

The Meeting

For 2017 our colleagues at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, with Amit Sinha heading the local organising committee, will host the annual Welsh Orthopaedic Society Meeting.  The meeting is taking place at The Lion Quays Hotel and Spa, Weston Rhyn, Oswestry.

This will be an all day meeting starting at 09:30am with registration starting from 08:30am. The Robert Owen Lecture will be given by Professor Ian Pallister at 1-30pm and The Rowland Hughes Memorial Lecture, given by Mr Richard Spencer Jones, will take place at 17:00pm.

The meeting will consist of a varied scientific program of podium presentations, poster presentations and educational workshops.

The meeting has been granted 6 hours of CPD by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

The WOS education committee is liaising with the Bone and Joint Journal editorial team for acceptance of the podium presentations for submission and publication in the Orthopaedic Supplements of the BJJ.

The Presidents prize for the best presentation on the day will be awarded a fully funded trip to the American Academy meeting in 2018.

Only the presenter of the paper awarded the President’s Prize will be eligible and the prize is not transferable.

The Venue

 Lion Quays Waterside Resort is set in Welsh/English countryside, along the Llangollen Canal. The scientific meeting is organised in the Lion Suite. Parking is free.

If you are planning to stay for the 11th or the 12th night, please quote WOS 17. Discount rates have been negotiated for our delegates.

Registration

This will be an all day meeting at the Conference Hall, the Lion Suite starting with registration starting from 08:30am. The Rowland Hughes Memorial Lecture will take place at 17:00pm.

Dinner

Conference dinner at the Lion Quays Hotel will be at 7:30 pm for 8:00 pm.

Dress code: Lounge suits

Places for dinner will close at 12:00 on Friday 29th April. Spouses are welcome but unfortunately there is a limit on the numbers that can be accommodated so places will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

A deposit of £20.00 per person is required for the dinner and a cheque must be sent to Dianne to ensure a place. You will also need to pre-order from the menu informing her at the time of booking.

Transport

By train: Nearest station is at Gobowen, which is serviced regularly by trains from South and North Wales and the Midlands. Taxi from railway station to Lion Quays Hotel and Spa is approximately 1 mile.

By car: The Lion Quays Hotel and Spa is located 4 miles North West of Oswestry on the A5.
